Decoupling

Explosion decoupling is an indispensable protective measure because a localized explosion in a filter or silo must absolutely be prevented from spreading through the conveyor and piping systems. In general, the decoupling systems must be comprised of largely autonomous protective systems and must be tested (by initiating an explosion) and certified by a Notified Body.

Non-return flaps:

Non-return flaps are generally installed in the crude-gas line upstream of the filter inflow. They are open during normal operation, but if an explosion occurs in the filter the non-return flap closes the crude gas line as a result of the explosion pressure, thereby preventing the explosion from spreading towards the extraction point.

Inexpensive

Disadvantage:

Only works in one direction

Fast-closing slider :

A detection system detects an incipient explosion and extremely quickly closes a sliding plate over the pipeline

Advantage:

Pipeline is hermetically sealed

Disadvantage:

Expensive

VENTEX valve:

Primarily used in clean-gas plants

Advantage:

Pipeline is hermetically sealed

Disadvantages:

Only suitable for low dust concentrations

Expensive

Extinguishing agent barrier:

A detection system detects the onset of an explosion, and as a result extinguishing powder is blown into the pipeline, extinguishing the flames.

Advantage:

No mechanical parts required

Disadvantages:

Flame decoupling only; no pressure decoupling

Rotary valve:

Decoupling of filter and material discharge

Advantage:

Complete decoupling of flames and pressure

In most cases, this is already part of a filter system
