Explosion pressure venting
In extraction systems, dust explosion incidents are a potential risk that must not be underestimated. Depending on the "zone", devices and plants must demonstrate certain levels of protection. In this regard, thirteen possible sources of ignition need to be examined for their relevance. The appropriate protective measures are then determined based on this examination. Explosion pressure venting prevents overpressures in filter systems, for instance. Pressure venting is used where there are non-toxic dusts.
A smart pressure and infrared system detects an incipient explosion inside a container and will very rapidly spray a suitable extinguishing agent into the affected container. This stops the explosion before it develops further. The inlet and discharge pipes are also decoupled using an extinguishing agent barrier.
Explosion decoupling is an indispensable protective measure because a localized explosion in a filter or silo must absolutely be prevented from spreading through the conveyor and piping systems.
Heat and smoke detectors are installed in order to detect fires in the plant. Heat sensors respond when a certain temperature is reached, and smoke detectors respond when a certain amount of smoke has developed. If a fire is detected, sprinkler systems are triggered around the clean gas area of the filter. Where powder and gas extinguishing systems are used, the filter casing is closed with flaps in the event of a fire.
