Sorptive flue gas cleaning
Andritz Energy & Environment GmbH, Anlage: Blackburn Meadows, Sheffield (UK)
Vienna-based Andritz Energy & Environment GmbH have commissioned Scheuch with the task of designing the flue gas cleaning system downstream of a 98 MWth fluidised-bed combustion facility – designed for matured and scrap timber incineration – located in the Blackburn Meadows area of Sheffield in the UK. The scope of supply includes a bag filter featuring pulse jet cleaning and a six-chamber design, plus dry sorption based on calcium hydroxide and activated carbon (AC) for pollutant removal purposes.
Technical data:
- Continuous operating temperature 150 – 180°C
- Volume flow rate 310,500 Am³/h
As the complete plant is required to demonstrate a high level of availability, the dosing and conveying systems for the calcium hydroxide and AC each have redundant designs. Thanks to two separate pressure vessel conveying systems, the ash removal facility provides additional redundancy. Where emission limits are concerned, the values stipulated by the WID (Waste Incineration Directive) are to be adhered to.
As well as this, there are additional measures for ensuring maximum accessibility, safe inspection and an evacuation concept in the filter plant. In this project, the operator is also very keen to ensure that everything is built according to exact specifications and considers the outer appearance of the plant to be extremely important. Installation was started in spring 2013.
