Gas conditioning tower

When performing exhaust gas cleaning in the cement and other industries, the exhaust gases need to be cooled down prior to starting the cleaning process. Building on many years of process technology expertise, Scheuch gas-conditioning towers provide exceptional efficiency thanks to their optimal instrument-based design and layout combined with an adapted control concept.

Gas cooling involves cooling exhaust gas by injecting very fine water droplets into the hot stream of exhaust gas, whereby the evaporation process withdraws heat and achieves the desired temperature for the subsequent exhaust-gas cleaning.
As well as a defined control concept, it is crucial for operational safety that the water droplets are uniformly atomized and flow evenly through the evaporation section. Two-component compressed-air nozzles or one-component high-pressure nozzles are used in order to efficiently disperse the cooling water. The preferred direction for exhaust gas flow is vertical. Depending on the application or planning requirements, the exhaust gas flows from the top down or from the bottom up.

Mixed air/fresh air cooling Mass coolers
Mixed air/fresh air cooling

Mixed air cooling is used particularly when minor cooling is required only on an occasional or temporary basis, or in cases where cooler partial airflows are already available in the plant in question.

The mixed air is drawn into the mixing section by temperature-controlled flaps or by axial fans.
Structural costs are much lower compared to other cooling systems. However, since this increases the volumetric flow the filter plant must be larger in scale.

Mass coolers

Where brief temperature fluctuations occur (particularly in batch processes), plant components also work as thermal energy stores. The heat transferred to the walls of sheet metal components cause the material to heat up (mass heat storage effect).

The Scheuch mass cooler harnesses this effect to homogenize exhaust gas temperatures and can also serve as a spark separator. The sheet stacks incorporated into the mass coolers have been calculated to produce optimum thermal characteristics and reduce the sheeting volume to a minimum.
Depending on the required cooling output, the design focuses on either free-standing coolers or individual mass cooler stacks in extraction lines.
